This is a must see!!!
I found this film to be as described and then some!
Judy?s journey, as disturbing as it may seem on the surface, is one that in my opinion is very rare within the trans community, but is realistic and needed to be told. I personally know of only a very few rare people who have made similar choices. I believe that it is important to stress and also show that while transition works for most, it is not for all. And this film does just that.
I'm very happy that they portrayed the majority of "Transgender Journeys" in the film as being successful. Most people who wrestle with gender doubts in their lives need to transition just once. Judy?s transformation back and forth might give some people the wrong idea but I wonder what her early (first) transition was like. I'm curious as to if she got the needed evaluations and therapy as required by present day, or, did she fast track herself forward too quickly? She herself may not be able to answer that question! The other thought is of course would she still be happy as a girl if the anti-gay groups had not gotten hold of her?
While the focus of the film is on Judy it certainly is not limited to just his/her/his story. Many others such as Kate Bornstein, Rosalyn Blumenstein, Holly Boswell, surgeon Dr. Marci Bowers and Georgie Jessup, also discuss and allow us a glimpse into their lives. This is the best documentary film I have seen! One that I would recommend to anyone, wanting some honest and accurate insight into the lives of real transgender people.
