MORE ON THE COVER: Dax is an alien known as a Trill, a joined species comprised of two separate but interdependent entities: a host and a symbiont. While her 29-year-old body serves as a host, the symbiont that lives inside her is a 300-year-old lifeform that looks like a short, fat snake. Because the gender of the Trill body can change from host to host, Jedzia Dax has become somewhat of a role model to the large proportion of Star Trek fans in the TG community - the editors of Transgender Tapestry decided to bestow one of the first Editor's Choice Awards honoring "Positive Portrayals of the TG Community in the Media" on Deep Space Nine.
